Solar power plants like this are part of the massive Energy Transition underway

Something BIG is happening - I am now convinced and I want to be a part of it!

There is a substantial transition already in progress and it is taking place all around the globe. I have only recently started to plug in and pay attention to it and yet, I feel like I’m already late to the game!

Maybe, like many of you, I’ve actually been casually aware of it for years but mostly as a curious onlooker, perhaps even scratching the surface a bit here or there but not really altering the way I live my life or the decisions I make. Well, that spectator period is over - for me at least.

At the beginning of 2021, I made an earnest decision that will certainly impact my life and my career for the next decade. I am joining in on the global Energy Transition movement and more specifically, I am focusing my energy in both my personal and professional life to head down a renewable path.

What does that mean?

I am convinced that public and private institutions all around the world will inevitably agree on the need to move away from the way we produce and consume energy at scale. It will likely be the growing consensus over global warming that stems from the emissions of harmful greenhouse gases that will drive collective action but the impact on our planet and specie(s) will be massive.

This is not a simple undertaking and as I am learning, there are so many areas of our current and future lives that are affected - it can be truly mind-boggling! Even if you only focus on the power sector and the hazards of continuing to rely on coal and natural gas to generate electricity, you can get lost in the web of complex inter-connected environmental, biological, legal & regulatory, technical and socioeconomic systems involved. But the Energy Transition is actually bigger than just switching power grids like the ones we have in the U.S. to clean, renewable power sources.

I have started my own education and will continue to explore this sprawling web for the next 10 years at least. I will leverage what I learn to make what significant changes I can in my personal life - to set an example for others if nothing else. But to have a greater impact on the world, I also plan to seek out opportunities to apply my 30 year professional work experience to help with this movement. I am transitioning my career as a Software Product Manager to focus on solutions that advance our Energy Transition.

I created this site to document this journey. I believe I am joining in the early innings of what is going to be one of the biggest narratives of the 21st century. I hope that the stories I share here help other people who may join me on this, theRenewablePath.
