Updated Climate & Energy Podcast List

In traveling my own renewable path, I have tried to accelerate my learning by consuming content from a wide range of sources including e-books, actual books, webinars, white papers, community forums and a number of audio-only sources like podcasts. I know that no two people ramp up on new topics in exactly the same way but for those that enjoy audio-based information gathering, I have been sharing this curated list of podcasts.

You will find some good variety here whether you’re looking for deep, time-sensitive, wonky industry discussions or distinctly lighter, positive coverage of planet-saving topics. Some you can subscribe to and follow along, but others warrant going back through the archives - maybe even starting the whole series from the beginning.

I hope you find value and enjoyment in these suggestions.

Catalyst

One of my personal favorites is this featured show jointly produced by Canary Media and Post Script Media. It is hosted by industry expert and energy investor Shayle Kahn of Energy Impact Partners. This show tracks with current events for the Clean Energy Transition and all its moving parts delivering insightful conversations with impressive thought leaders, movers and shakers.

My Climate Journey Podcast

One of the most influential podcasts for climate-minded people, this series emphasizes calls to action vs. just covering current climate topics. Created and hosted by Jason Jacobs, the podcast has published more than 200 episodes and has expanded MCJ into an even larger online collective.

The Carbon Copy

Another personal favorite of mine from Canary Media and perhaps most accessible in their (growing) podcast library is The Carbon Copy. Host Stephen Lacey was one of the first subject matter experts I found early on in my journey, and I thorough enjoy the shorter format he uses on this podcast. Discussion is mostly climate related as he and his guests have informative but high-level discussions across business, technology, culture and politics.

The Interchange

Wood Mackenzie relaunched this popular show with new host David Banmiller, and I still find the “Recharged” episodes quite informative as the rotating panel of guests discuss topics mostly related to the Clean Energy Transition but addressing clean tech issues and impact on a global scale.

How to Save a Planet

Hats off to Gimlet Media, creator Alex Blumberg and all the hosts for nailing a podcast format that is practically universally loved. I continue to recommend this to anyone new to climate change for two reasons. They cover the widest range of topics which helps inform the listener of the vast expanse of this problem space and they intentionally end each episode with actionable things you and I can do to help.

Watt it Takes

I’ve mentioned this podcast in previous posts but would recommend it to anyone looking to better understand how new companies are being created to help tackle carbon emissions at scale. Powerhouse Founder and CEO Emily Kirsch is an amazing interviewer and continues to line up in-depth interviews with innovative founders.

The Energy Gang

Another great Wood Mackenzie podcast originally created by Greentech Media, The Energy Gang also features a round-table format and tends to skew toward recent public policy activity and the resulting impacts. Still, I have found that even “skimming” this content on a regular basis helps me feel more informed.

But wait - there’s more!

You won’t be surprised to learn that these recommendations are only a sample of the available podcast content out there. My own subscription includes more great options like The Big Switch and Electrify This - and I would LOVE for Molly Wood to bring back How We Survive someday.

If you have your own favorites, please share them here to help us all move forward on our collective journeys!
